Barbecued Crab with Spaghetti

Added by: on Jan 11th, 2011
Crab is at its messiest and most delicious here—it’s served in a spicy barbecue sauce atop a platter of steaming spaghetti. You eat the crab legs and claws with your fingers, so be sure to provide plenty of big paper napkins.

Directions:

1

Melt butter in a 5- t0 6-quart pan over medium—low heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring often, until onion is soft but not brown (8 to 10 minutes). Stir in broth, tomato sauce, catsup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire, soy mustard, hot pepper seasoning, celery seeds, allspice, thyme, and bay leaves. Increase heat to high and bring to a boil; reduce heat and boil very gently uncovered, until reduced to 3 cups (about 45 minutes).

Meanwhile, remove body meat from crabs, discarding shells; set shelled body meat and cracked claws aside.

3

In a 6- to 8-quart pan, cook spaghetti in 4 quarts boiling water just until tender to bite (8 to 10 minutes); or cook according to package d1rections.

4

While spaghetti is cooking, add all the crab to sauce and simmer, uncovered, just until crab is heated through, stirring gently several times (about 5 minutes). Drain spaghetti well; transfer to a warm large serving bowl and top with crab sauce. Sprinkle with parsley.
